East West Math has put together a series of comprehensive and intensive seminars to take your teachers into the mathematically content-rich environment of Singapore Math.

Introduction to Singapore Math®

Goal: to train teachers in the Singapore Math Pedagogy in the context of Common Core State Standards.

The Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teachers will participate in an intensive, themed workshop designed to introduce/review Singapore Math Pedagogy in the context of the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics.

Specific topics include:

Singapore Math philosophy, which focuses on a few key concepts to achieve a deep level of understanding. These concepts are also a key to understanding Common Core State Standards in Mathematics.

Jerome Bruner’s constructivist research: Concrete to Pictorial to Abstract approach, on which Singapore Math pedagogy is built. This approach enables students to encounter math in a meaningful way and translate mathematical skills from the concrete to the abstract. This approach allows students to understand mathematical concepts before learning the procedures.

Key features of the Singapore Math program are Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA), Model-drawing, Teaching to Mastery, Balanced Progression and Metacognition. The structure and “what” and “how” of the Singapore Math textbooks, workbooks and teachers’ guides.
