Participants will examine the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract approach to teaching beginning math concepts, and explore ways to scaffold lessons for struggling learners. The workshop will incorporate spatial visualization, counting, classifying and comparing numbers, subitizing (readily identifying the number of objects in a set without counting), composing and decomposing numbers, solving word problems and mathematical modeling.
